Bookshelves

Ooooh ! Bookshelves !

Ikea . £29.95 * 2 .

All these books were on the settee , so now I have somewhere to loll around when shouting at BBC News .

That's a good price. I just wish the photo was of a sufficiently high resolution that I could be incredibly nosey and see what you own.

You're a man after my own heart , Ross .

I'm really pleased about having more of my beautiful books set out like they should be . The settee and the bottom of the wardrobe wasn't good enough for them .

The yellow hardback (2nd bottom left shelf) is The Kings Depart , about 1919 in Germany/Austria/Hungary+Treaty of Versailles . Bought it recently because I gave my paperback one to a pupil who messed it up .
Next to that is Andrew Rawnsley's The End Of The Party (unread , turgid) and Andrew Roberts' The Storm Of War (well read , excellent).

Top 2 shelves are Greek and Latin Classics , which may , or may not , interest you . I have shifted all the Imperial history stuff to the older shelves in different parts of the room/flat .

Middle shelf , next to the dictionaries , has some really good stuff on Herodotus and Thucydides (esp, Donald Kagan's works on The Peloponnesian War - v.recommended).

Underneath them with the b+w face on the spine is The Roman Revolution (Syme) , just re-reading , but v.good .

Under that , and to the left a bit , is Enoch Powell's biography of Joseph Chamberlain (sadly out of print) and several John Terraine books .

Obsessed ? Me ?

At least I'm not sunk in despair at the end of education/civilisation any more .

That's the one word guaranteed to get my attention YOL. Bookshelves. I remember hitting IKEA Wembley ages ago for a load (BILLY I think)and then going back for some more only they'd ever so slightly changed the spec. The perfection of a straight line of identical, to attention bookshelves spoiled by a slight off whiteness.

Like your reading material as well. :-)

Ah ! Naplok .

You saw the Catherine Cookson and the cowboy books as well ?

Cheers , INCOMING !!!

They are Billy shelves . Me and my pal could hardly carry them out the shop , far less up the stairs . IKEA in Scotland won't take your order online for some reason .

As for reading material - there's also William Hague's biography of Pitt the Younger and all the AJP Taylor books I own (for a Leftie , he was quite good ). I've also got an illustrated book about the Zulu War called "Brave Men's Blood" . Highly recommended as well , if you can get it 2nd hand .
