Musings On A Culture War

It is becoming increasingly evident that the homosexualists' campaign for the forced acceptance of their behaviour is the primary front in this phase of the war against civilisation which the left has been waging since at least the days of Karl Marx (perhaps even having its roots in the French Revolution).

The emotive language , the lack of reason ,the attempt to silence debate and force their opponents into humiliated silence all mark it out for what it is - totalitarian oppression .

On this level it is the process itself which is important , both to the leftist campaigners and , in the long run , to us .

The writer , psychiatrist and former prison doctor Theodore Dalrymple says something very interesting in an interview with FrontPage Magazine .

FP: You make the shrewd observation of how political correctness engenders evil because of “the violence that it does to people’s souls by forcing them to say or imply what they do not believe, but must not question.” Can you talk about this a bit?

Dalrymple: Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.

It is this process which we see here . First the supposedly liberal impulse not to subject poor , afflicted homosexuals to criminal prosecution . All well and good . Who but the most heartless would wish to see an otherwise respectable man thrown into gaol for a private , dirty , little secret .His shame was between him and God - not the business of society at large .

Then in the 80's in London , moving through the 90's everywhere else we had a concerted campaign to make homosexuality appear normal and accepted . "Gay" Pride marches , a profusion of homosexual bars and clubs , effeminate homosexuals held up as founts of wit and wisdom on television - all furthered the aim of this campaign .

Now we have the penultimate stage . The shrill quangocrats of Stonewall established throughout the land , men "marrying" other men , co-habiting homosexuals adopting the children which their barren self-destruction cannot give them - and all this done through the process of totalitarian control , involving the law and even the police to force Christians to acquiesce . Christian registrars forced to perform "Civil Partnership" ceremonies , Christian adoption agencies forced to close or accept homosexuals bringing up the young , Christian campaigners routinely harassed by the police for proclaiming God's word .

And now the campaign attacks the source of that Christian teaching - the Church .

The Episcopalian Church in America has already had a homosexual bishop foisted upon it , the Chuch of England and other Anglican Churches in the Old Commonwealth are targets of this movement . The Roman Catholic Church , for once , won't bend the knee , so is smeared for the criminal behaviour of child abusing priests ( as if child molesters didn't follow other occupations).

Even in Scotland we are assailed . Mr. Rennie's attempts to gain acceptance of his domestic arrangements are not merely for his own convenience , or , even ,to deny Scripture and the nature of sin . They are part of a war to impose a totalitarian mind-set on us all in the way Dr.Dalrymple describes .

Fortunately , for a Presbyterian , the Church is not an organisation housed in several big buildings , headed by a man in a pointy hat sitting on a throne . If the General Assembly turns its back on Scripture and capitulates to Evil , the Church of Scotland will still continue , only under a different name or in the hearts of believers , or even , as in the Killing Time , on wind-swept hill-sides near Shotts or Sanquhar where the faithful will gather to praise the Living God .

There was no compomise with Evil in those days . Our fore-fathers were small in number , persecuted for their beliefs , derided as small-minded bigots . But still they kept the Truth in their hearts . Deliverance came from across the sea and by God's Grace we were freed . It will happen again , as long as we keep faith .
